Memory lane: Tangle

Tangle was studio Onigiri's first ever fanzine, it was a trilogy that ran from 2001 and was completed in 2002.

Tangle was completely assembled at a photocopying centre and ended up being a perfect bound, colour covered, black and white paged stack of loveliness. Each volume was collated and guillotined manually with machines, thankfully, but it still took an insane amount of time and we ended up spending entire afternoons making them!!

Thanks to attention our fanzine received we got a lot of interest, mainly at Japan Expo, after which Galou began illustrating professionally for many years.

Our comic was also translated into Japanese and sold in Japan thanks to the work of M. Hashimoto, who completely over sees the Japanese side of studio Onigiri. Aside from flipping the page order, we had a new cover especially designed for the first volume of the Japanese edition. It had also been translated into English, but only up to volume 2...

For us, it was the first time that we ever had so many people reading our fanzines. We had received a lot of fanart and even two amazing models of our main characters Nae and Nyko, sculpted by the super talented Axel!

We always created a new poster (via photocopier) for our stand to promote each new volume, which always walked off with a congoer by the end of the day...

A short interview from around this time is available from Animeland's website (in French)
